Watermelon with Daddy

I cut up a watermelon today and Reagan decided she needed to sit on Daddy’s lap and share it with him! She seemed to really enjoy it and made a huge mess!!

April books

In April I only read six books, down over 50% from the 13 I read in March. The main reason, other than being crazy busy and exhausted from work, is that Reagan has actually been sleeping at night, which means Mommy has actually been sleeping and not up reading at night!!

April Books:

Summary

This month was an interesting mix and overall all of the books were pretty good. The theme of at least three of the books was children missing one or more parents (one was mom – My Favorite Bride, one was dad – One Tiny Miracle, and one was both – Marrying Kate!). Two were general love books (Other Side of Us & Where the Heart Leads), but Where the Heart Leads really surprised me by just how much I liked it and the twist I definitely wasn’t expecting at the end! The last book of the month was Witchy Business and I liked it so much that I went looking for the follow-up books as soon as I finished this one. Unfortunately there aren’t any yet, but I’ll definitely be waiting for them!

Check out the other books I’ve read so far this year:

Playing outside

Tuesday evening after we got home from work it was beautiful outside, so Reagan and I went out to the front yard to walk around a play a little bit. Reagan had a lot of fun not only being outside, but also checking out the dandelions and climbing the front steps! It was a great way to expend some of Reagan’s extra energy and baby girl ate a lot at dinner and slept great!!

First time mowing with Daddy

When we got home from work James needed to mow and Reagan seemed like she wanted to go with him. We weren’t sure how she would take it because she would have to wear ear protection (because James was mowing on the big tractor).

Amazingly enough, she didn’t mind at all, didn’t even try to take the ear protection, and LOVED riding on the tractor and mowing with Daddy!!

Follow-up appointment

Reagan had a follow-up appointment with Dr Brooks to see how her ears were doing. She’d had water in her left one on and off for the previous three months and he wanted to make sure they had cleared out. The good news was that they had! The bad news was that we had also had Reagan’s iron level checked (as a routine part of her 15 month check-up) and her iron was low. Because of this he wanted her to start taking an (icky) iron supplement for three months. 🙁

Working in the yard

Saturday we all went out as a family to work on the yard. James’ first goal was to try and get the driveway fixed as best he could. The flood caused a huge gulley along the drive and he thought if he filled it in with bricks he might be able to slow down the erosion.

Another goal was to get a huge log out of the creek that was blocking it up. The log got stuck during the flood and other debris kept getting stuck and making the jam bigger and bigger.

And, if that wasn’t enough, we decided to go ahead and pull out the privot trees/bushes along the south side of the pool. We’d put them in three years before and they just never grew that well and were more of an annoying eye sore that drove James nuts when trying to mow the lawn. Reagan hung out and played in the rocks while we used the tractor (and sometimes James pulled them out manually!) to pull the trees.

The last thing we did was pull out the dead tree along the pool. It was a really bad eye sore and I wanted it OUT!! James pulled it out with the tractor, but the roots were so intertwined with the rest of the plants that I had to get a shovel and break apart the roots and dirt.

Overall it was a busy, but very productive day!!

Sixteen month update

Reagan Kay is sixteen months old and loves the outdoors and exploring everything!! When we take her outside she wants to look at every little piece of dirt, stick, rock, and especially dandelions!

What a little lady!

What a little lady!

Here is some of what Reagan has been up to this month:

  • Walking: Reagan is at the point now that walking is old news and the next big thing is going to be running and jumping!!
  • Climbing: We got Reagan a step-stool for the kitchen and she is now climbing the stool to get into things and climbing onto the couch (with one of the cushions down).
  • Snuggling: Reagan is still snuggly, but is too busy to do to much of it!
  • Body parts: Reagan is doing more of her body parts on command. She still acts like she doesn’t know some stuff, but you can tell she’s being silly (or stubborn) and definitely does know what we’re talking about!
  • Books: Reagan likes books, but is in busy mode and wants to be busy and active more than she wants to sit down and read right now!
  • Talking: Reagan is still babbling a lot; very cute when she “talks” to her baby doll and toys. She does say some “real” words, but it’s limited to when she talks and after she says a word once she normally won’t say again and definitely won’t say it again if we want her to!
  • Helping: Reagan is very helpful and especially likes helping Daddy build things and using tools!
  • Playing: Reagan is spending more time playing on her own and is really cute when she is babbling and “talking” to her toys.
  • Outdoors: Reagan loves the outdoors and one of her favorite things is to have us take her outside so she can walk around and investigate everything!

  • Attached: Reagan is still a little spider monkey with Mommy and wants to be attached to her all the time.
  • Getting into things: Reagan is crazy about emptying out anything she can get her hands on, but especially the bathroom cabinets!
  • Nursing: Reagan is still nursing quite a bit and not showing indication of weaning anytime soon. If anything, she seems more aware of her Momma milk and better able to communicate her desire for it!
  • Solid Food: Reagan is still eating solids pretty well and likes Greek yogurt a lot as well as popcorn still!
  • Sleeping: Reagan regularly sleeps anywhere from 10-12 hours a night. Granted this is 10-12 hours with nursing on and off at least every 2-3 hours if not more, but at least she isn’t fully waking up and I can mostly stay asleep during this time.

Reagan is a busy, funny, and beautiful little girl. We have a lot of fun seeing the world through her eyes! It’s hard to believe another month has passed and we can’t wait to see what next month brings!

Visiting the Grandparents

Friday we went to Grandpa Gene and Grandma Alice’s house for dinner. It was rather impromptu, but was really nice for Reagan to get to see them and dinner (fresh pork chops) was really really good!

Building the new wagon

The last time we were out riding in the red wagon, the handle broke!! Reagan was heartbroken because she loves riding around in her wagon, so Daddy went out and bought Reagan a new and much much more heavy duty wagon!! Daddy also let Reagan help put together her wagon! She loved helping and using tools!!
