Five year blog anniversary

Amazingly it is our Blog’s FIVE YEAR anniversary! Yes, our jamesandkona.com blog has been around (and kept updated!) for the last five years!!

Colorado

Picture from our first blog post!

James got me the jamesandkona URL and setup WordPress for me as an early wedding gift. He thought it would be a good way for us (me) to keep track of all our travels and life together.  Today, looking back at the 1,130 posts from the last five years, I’d say I more than accomplished this goal!

The blog has evolved from mostly travel related posts, to a pregnancy journal, and now to focus more on our life with a toddler (who yes, is the center of our world!).

It’s amazing to read back through everything we’ve done, all the places we’ve traveled, and how our family has changed! So often you forgot the little things (and sometimes even the big things), so keeping this blog has definitely served as a family journal that Reagan will hopefully appreciate once she gets older.

It doesn’t seem like it’s been five years, but here’s to five more! May we continue to enjoy our life and our lives together… and continue to blog about it!!

Daddy

We were all laying in bed tonight cuddling and reading books and Reagan insisted on using my phone to take this picture of Daddy!

Summary

Overall my favorite books this month were the two I read for my book group: Quiet and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. These were both pretty profound books and I would definitely recommend them as a good quality reads. For the other books, there weren’t any that really stood out other than the new Amanda Quick novel and “Enjoying the Chase” by Kirsty Moseley. Quick has finally stepped back from the paranormal and gone back to her traditional historical romance novels, which was much appreciated. The Moseley book was the second in a series and while I enjoyed the first one, I actually liked the second one a lot more. Regardless, it was a good month of reading!

Check out the other books I’ve read so far this year:

Splashing

It rained quite a bit Tuesday and when we got home Reagan couldn’t wait to splash around in the puddles in the driveway!

Reagan loved splashing and it was pretty cute to see her running though the puddles and then stopping to stomp around in them.

Fun splashing in the puddles!

In fact, Reagan was having such a good time outside she didn’t want to come inside to eat. Instead, she wanted to eat on the front porch!

After dinner Reagan was back to playing. This time checking out the rock James had added to the front yard. Yep, baby girl definitely loves playing outside!

Mulch

It seems like it’s been about three years since we’ve really done anything the the yard, and wow can you really tell. The weeds have taken over completely and everything just looked a little shabby. Thus, one of my big goals for this spring was to get the yard back in shape. This started with the front walkway area.

James used the hand tiller to till up the ground and get rid of the weeds, but we still needed to get landscape fabric down (to keep the weeds away), add some fresh plants, and then mulch the heck out of the area!

We ran out of mulch, but it’s a pretty good start! Now for more mulch (lots and lots more) and more work on the other side of the sidewalk and the rest of the yard!

Twenty-eight months

Reagan is twenty-eight months old! The months seem to be flying by and Reagan is definitely keeping us busy! This last month has been pretty nice out so Reagan has been able to take full advantage of being outdoors!

Reagan LOVES water! It doesn’t matter if it’s from the sink, hose, or puddles, Reagan loves playing in the water! She is definitely our little water baby and I can only hope that this transfers over to her enjoying the pool this summer!

Reagan LOVES “mud” (aka dirt). It doesn’t matter if the dirt is dry or actual mud, Reagan loves playing in it! This also transfers over to playing in the sand. Reagan really enjoys playing in the sand and it can keep her busy for quite some time!

Reagan LOVES nature and playing outdoors. Picking flowers (dandelions), playing with frogs, examining a birds nest and the eggs, if it has to do with being outside and nature, Reagan is loving it!

Reagan LOVES books. We have been reading more and more books this month and Reagan has really gotten into reading before naps and bedtime. We normally have to go through the same few books again and again and again… Her favorites have been The Egg-cellent Mama Hen (picture below), Duck and Goose find a Pumpkin, Baby’s First Christmas (no idea why, but Reagan loves the “baby” book), If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, and the Going to Bed Book.

Reagan is an amazing little girl who is so funny, opinionated, and busy! She definitely keeps life interesting and I couldn’t imagine how bored we’d be without her! Can’t wait to see what next month brings!

Artist

Friday after work we ran some errands around town including Menard’s where Reagan thought the kayak they had for sale was pretty cool! Too bad we don’t have anywhere to use it!

When we got home I was busy putting groceries away and didn’t realize until it was too late that Reagan was practicing her artistic abilities on our kitchen trash can!!!

Her job is to make mud

Wednesday after work we went out to water the grass and berry bushes.

While we were trying to get the berry bushes watered Reagan decided she wanted to help hold the hose. Yet, her idea of helping wasn’t to water the bushes, but rather the “mud.” The following video shows Reagan not only watering the mud (very efficiently by the way), but also telling us “Me job, mud” and “Water” (Translation: her job is to make mud out of water).

The whole thing was too cute, especially her falling into the mud (yes, she got stripped before we brought her in the house for a bath) and telling us over and over that this was her job!

Friends

We have been really lucky to have an amazing baby sitter that Reagan has gone to since she was 4 weeks old! Not only is a warm family environment, but Reagan has had a chance to form friendships with other little girls her age!

This morning Reagan’s baby sitter sent me the following picture of Reagan and her friends enjoying their morning snack of gold fish!

I thought this was just too cute and I love that our baby sitter sends up pictures and updates like this every once in a while!

Spring is here

Tuesday afternoon (after I got off work) we ended up at Dairy Queen enjoying some ice cream. And, once again, Reagan wanted Mommy’s ice cream more than her own!!

When we got home the weather was perfect and Reagan was looking extra cute in her spring dress, so I got a few pictures of her by the front porch.
