Back to school

Today is Reagan’s first day back to school since vacation (Dec 14) and she was super excited to get back to her friends and teachers! Kennedy on the other hand was still a little tired and wanted to go back to bed!

Kennedy has been showing a LOT of interest in watching us eat and grabbing at things so we thought it was about time to get her a highchair. She isn’t eating real food yet, just mommy milk, but I thought we could at least get her comfortable and sitting at the table with us while we eat.

While James was out running errands today he picked up a highchair from Walmart and he and Reagan put it together tonight before dinner!

Kennedy seemed to really like the highchair and since she wants to chew on stuff so bad (because of teething), I went ahead and put some baby carrots into a mesh bag for her to chew on while we ate dinner. This way she isn’t really eating anything, but she can get the flavor of the carrots and have something cold to chew on!

Not too much longer and we’ll be giving her some real food to actually eat! I think she’s going to be quite the eater once she gets a chance!

This is the type of princess I wanted to be when I was a little girl! One that could take care of herself and fight just as good (if not better) than the boys!

Little did I realize that I would end up raising one if not two (Kennedy’s still a little young to know for sure!) little girls just like this!

Reagan got a Microphone and stand for her birthday from my brother and his family and it was a huge hit!

It was pretty cute to hear her sing and she loved having an audience (Mommy, Grandma, and Kennedy!).

Dec 2016 Trip Recap

Our December 2016 trip was a lot of fun and included a ton of new and different experiences!

By the  numbers:

  • 19 days: December 15, 2016 – January 2, 2017
  • 12 states: Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri

I’ve got plenty of pictures and lots of things to write up about everything we did, but it will take me a little while to get it added to the blog so for now here’s a brief rundown of what we did; I’ll link the individual blogs to each day as I get them finished!

Day 1 – Made it to Cave City, KY for the night

Day 2 – Freezing cold! Did Dinosaur World, Stonehenge in KY, and Kentucky Down Under. Drove to Cumberland Falls Lodge, KY for the night.

Day 3 – Did Cumberland Falls, Natural Arch, KFC museum, and the highest point in Kentucky. Drove to Big Stone Gap, Virginia for the night.

Day 4 – Made it to Sevierville, Tennessee! Fudruckers for lunch, Sevier Air: Trampoline Park and Ninja Warrior course, and checked into Wyndham Smokey Mountains Resort with our friends the Morrell’s.

Day 5 – Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, TN. Swimming at the resort and card games in the room.

Day 6 – Deer Farm & Exotic Petting Zoo and Reagan rode a pony. Ate lunch at the Old Mill Restaurant in Pigeon Forge and browsed around some of the local shops. Went to Dollywood in the evening and got to see their Parade of Many Colors.

Day 7 – Spent the day at Dollywood. Reagan went on her first real rollercoaster and liked it!

Day 8 – Headed out of TN through the mountains via North Carolina and South Carolina. Stopped at the EdVenture children’s museum in Columbia, South Carolina. Made it to Savannah, Georgia for the night.

Day 11 – Christmas – Open gifts and spent the day on Sombrero Beach in Marathon.

Day 12 – Went to the local playground and relaxed!

Day 13 – Reagan’s 5th Birthday!! – Went to Theater of the Seas Marine Mammal Adventure in Islamorada, FL and Reagan got to throw a ring to a Sea Lion! Spent the rest of the day at Founders Beach. In the evening Reagan decorated her own cake and we ate cake/ice cream and opened gifts.

Day 14 – Spent the day at Bahia Honda Beach on Big Pine Key, FL.

Day 15 – Spent the day in Key West, FL. Visited Nancy Forresters Secret Garden and Reagan got to feed and hold a parrot. Ate some authentic Key West sea food and key lime pie. Went through the Shipwreck Museum and did some souvenir shopping.

Day 16 – Went to Sombrero Beach in Marathon, FL to enjoy the sun and sand and ended up getting to see former President Jimmy Carter (and his family) release a sea turtle back into the ocean!

Day 17 – New Years Eve – Started heading home. Drove all the way through Florida from the Key’s and made it to Tifton, Georgia for the night. Enjoyed a southern buffet (including steak and shrimp) and visited Adcock Pecans.

Day 18 – New Years Day – Decided to do some meandering on our way home so we went west out of Tifton and went through Alabama, stopping at Urban Air Trampoline Park in Birmingham, AL, and then continued meandering through Mississippi and finally stopping for the night in West Memphis, Arkansas.

Day 19 – Left Arkansas and went through Missouri before getting back into Illinois. We visited the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, which is also the lowest point in Illinois, as well as Ryan’s Buffet in Mount Vernon, IL. Reagan fell asleep during the last 20 minutes before we got home and ended up sleeping for 14 hours straight!

Overall it was a great vacation and I’m happy to report that we’re still on friendly terms with both families we vacationed with (Morrell’s in TN and Feinstein’s in FL) and would vacation with them again if we got a chance!
